Back to blogging

Namaste.  Hello and welcome.

I have decided to get back to blogging, after a tentative start earlier in the year, which sadly petered out because of website glitches. So, I got a great new domain name (thank you, Montenegro) and will blog happily away, and wait for the website to catch up.

I suppose I should hold forth about the Issues of the Day, such as President Obama and the Nobel Peace Prize and other such lofty topics, but what the heck, my initial focus is going to be micro rather than macro. My blog = my world.

So, how is Delhi, this sunny Saturday afternoon ? Well, it’s bright and sunny, and still pretty warm, but gradually the temperatures are dropping, as we slowly edge towards winter.  After months of blistering heat, you actually don’t mind going out in the daytime. Yesterday, for example, we took a visiting South African friend – Josie Richards, a Jo’burg based novelist – around Hauz Khas.  First bit of Delhi sight-seeing I’ve done for months – it’s just been too hot otherwise.

This week has been reasonably eventful.  I made my TV debut, as a strictly non-speaking member of the studio audience on NDTV’s “We the People” on Sunday.  It was an interesting experience, seeing behind the scenes of a major national TV programme, but the topic was pretty under-whelming, which is why I didn’t talk.  I was also conscious of being one of only 2 foreigners, in a discussion about Indian icons. A potential mine-field, if ever there was one.

An article I wrote about our recent trek to Ladakh was published in a Johannesburg paper at the weekend.

Yesterday I spent a stressful few hours at Jeevashram, our wonderful vet, while Yoda had 4 tumours removed.  I think it all went well, though she is still a bit dopey and below par, but after a night sleeping on our bed, she seemed more cheerful, bless her.

Here is my photo of the day.  Well, yesterday, to be exact.  I love Indian signs, especially ones that forbid me from shooting or washing my clothes in a public park.

    Hello Christine and Himmat,
Nice pieces of news from you, as usual – although we would need some explanations for all the Indian words in todays’ text !
I will forward your message to Vianney who is working in Laos at the moment, managing a local eco-tourism company.

My, oh my, Christine. It is always so thoughtful of you to keep us in mind when sharing your very interesting writing. Thanks once again.
Cathi and I are off on a return trip to South Africa next week. We find that our well-being requires that occasional infusion of flora and fauna.

    Hugs to all,
    B and C
