Well that’s it, then.
Winter is over.
Bring on the spring-like weather, which is a joy in Delhi, because before too long, it will be summer. But in that brief interval, between the chilly fog & the summer heat, Delhi’s weather is beautiful – mild and pleasantly sunny - and the city looks great. To celebrate, Lizzie (whenever she arrives) and yours truly are going to have a glass of wine on the roof terrace, under a full moon.
I left you yesterday en route to the dress rehearsal of Beating Retreat - and what an impressive spectacle it was, too. Marching bands. The PBG (President’s Body Guard). The Bikaner Camel Corp. Tubular Bells. The Last Post. Abide with Me. The whole 9 yards, done as only (military) India can do - with huge style and precision. And bang on time, too.
It really is a ridiculously moving ceremony.
My favourite was the PBG.
No, wait, the camel regiment.
No, wait, the tubular bells.
No, no, hang on, my favourite moment was the lighting up of Rashtrapati Bhavan and Parliament at the end, in a stupendous, collective “Oooh” from us all - even though we all knew it was coming. Anyone any idea how long Rashtrapati Bhavan is lit up for ? I was thinking of going one evening to take photos.
But Delhi life goes on, all these ceremonies notwithstanding…crime is rampant :
IGI is Delhi airport, by the way.
And so, with all this brazen crime, what does India need ? Well, obviously, a special police force to guard the fragrant Mayawati’s statues. Read on :
You do remember how much a crore is, right ? There is actually nothing more to be said about this outrageous behaviour, other than that is is truly, hideously mind boggling. Never mind the grinding poverty, the illiteracy, Aids, the whole works – just build more statues of Mayawati and then hire people to guard them.
OK, before I start to rant too much…
Perhaps I should go out for a nice, relaxing meal, as per the flyer inside this morning’s paper :
I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw about all this fine dinning, but wait – help is at hand :
So perhaps I can combine the two – fine dinning plus getting lustrous peepers at the same time.
What shall my photo of the day be ? I liked this poster for “Veer” a film starring Mr. Beefcake, Salman Khan, that opened last Friday - with a rather bad artists’ rendition right next door, for some strange reason.

Tears are pouring out of my lustrous peepers as I laugh at today’s blog!
