No sex please, we’re peacocks

Now I realise I am a little late to the peacock sex party, but I’ve had connectivity issues down here in rural France –  as well as car issues, but that’s another story altogether.

So, while I have a good signal and a few minutes down time, let me share with you what is quite clearly the most bonkers story to emerge from India this past week.

The news that peacocks do not have sex.

Yup.

You read that correctly.

Listen, if you will, to one Mahesh Chandra Sharma:

“The main characteristic of the peacock is his celibacy. The peahen gets pregnant by swallowing the tears of the peacock.”

Quite.

Now – and here is the truly scary part about this crazy statement – the man who said it was a high court judge.

Quite.

Here, watch an interview with him, in which he talks about religion, peacocks, cows, the law, the whole 9 yards:

Now, all this “no sex please we’re peacocks” mullarkey makes me very sad for my beautiful peacocks back in Delhi.

Last summer, exactly this time last year, every morning, I’d go for a run in my local park, where there are loads of peacocks, and the same fella would dance for me, and me alone, morning after morning after morning.

I truly believed it was love with a capital L.

Here’s my handsome chap from last year, who, if one believes the Hon’ble High Court judge, is destined for a life of crying…

Yet again, I was the only female in sight. Feeling very loved ?
