Clear skies and wet leaves

Monday morning has dawned clear and bright and rather lovely-looking, but I have to go to a funeral – my sister Jane’s mother-in-law – so must soon tackle a London Monday morning rush hour.  I imagine it has to be less chaotic than doing the school run through Moti Bagh.

After the rain eased up around about lunchtime yesterday, London looked wonderful – piles of golden leaves everywhere, so the streets looked pretty and decorated. Just let’s hope the police don’t slip on them. I have the cutting, promise, just no scanner, so you may have to wait a little while till normal “dotty newspaper article” service is resumed.

We drove up to Hampstead, for a long, lazy lunch with Gill, Alan and Jessica, and it was lovely to sit back and watch the two teenage girls hold the (conversational) floor.

The weekend’s papers were full of significant musings, aimed, methinks, at filling up rainy afternoons.  And it worked.

Apparently, it’s 1000 days till the London Olympics. (Actually 998 now).  Lots of soul-searching, analysis, tracking of potential medal-winning athletes.  Don’t even mention the Delhi Commonwealth Games, thank you very much.

The other area of analysis was the fact that it is nearly the end of the first decade of this millenium, the so-called “Noughties”.  I suppose it is, but so what ? A whole pull-out supplement devoted to the “100 cultural moments that defined the decade” ?  Ho hum. Shouldn’t crib, I suppose, ”cos “Mamma Mia” and “Slumdog Millionaire” are both up there.

I realise I am somewhat short-changing you, with no daft news and silly photos, but such is the naure of travel.  Anjulie is supposed to get Liz’s scanner up and running today – thank God for teenagers.
