Not getting eyeballs

It’s been another hot and very humid day, with some rain this morning, and lots happening at home. Anjulie landed about 3am this morning, collected by Hari and Matt, but not her exhausted parents.  She says the new terminal looks world class, but that the baggage carousels were very stop-and-start-y. Alison moved to other Delhi friends this morning, which is sad, since we have had a blast this week. Which explains why we were too exhausted to get up and go to the airport.

Back to Hauz Khas this afternoon with Anjulie, but there was no need for traffic duty today.  Well, actually, as it happens, there was a truck blocking the road, with everyone honking and hooting while the poor driver tried to reverse, but couldn’t because everyone had hemmed him in, but…I decided not to embarrass Anjulie on Day One, and let it go.  Sonam joined us and we went and had cold drinks and a dosa.

Oh my goodness me -  went to see “Salt” with Alison, Eden and Cal last night.  What a truly pointless film.

Unlike Hari and Matt who opted to watch the same move in Gold Class, we bought the cheapest seats, all thanks to the friendly young man at the box office.  I asked for the more expensive seats – anything to impress guests -  but the young man at the box office said “Actually, madam, I would like to inform you that the seats are exactly the same, the view is exactly the same so there is no need of spending extra money” and promptly gave me the cheaper tickets.  What a sweetie.

There is a right old scandal brewing up over financial irregularities in the Commonwealth Games, which you can read about it the Countdown part of the blog.  It is all riveting stuff, in a depressing, here-we-go again kind of way.  Reminds me of all the fuss about the IPL -  and what happened about that, by the way ?  The way I see it, at least the IPL delivered what it set out to do – sport & entertainment on a big scale.

The Games scenario is slightly different.

65 days to go, and the city looks a mess, nothing seems ready, and you wonder why on earth these wretched people couldn’t have had the sense at least to finish everything.  It’s the total shambles and seeming chaos all over the city that has made people question the entire process.

Since it has been so grey and overcast all day. I thought we could do with a touch of flower market colour :

I have a nice word of the day for you.  It’s not its first time in this blog, but I do so like it.  This was in an article lamenting the poor showing of a film (no, not “Salt”).

Oh, and before I sign off, there is more about the re-introduction of the cheetah in the Green section of the blog.

Re CWG – it’s the seeming lack of prioritisation that gets me. A lot of the work seems unnecessary. When it looked as if they were running out of time could they not have focused on the most important bits? Reading about the potential egg-all-over-face makes me cringe. I just hope they perform a miracle and bring it off somehow and that nothing collapses on anyone!
