Sawubona from Africa

Let me set the scene for you.

We are in the Kruger Park, in a camp called Pretoriuskop.  Himmat has lit the braai (BBQ) and we are having a pre-dinner glass of red wine. South African, naturally.

It is chilly enough to need a fleece, which after Delhi is a treat, but it’s not actually too cold, to be honest. The sky is clear, the stars are out, bats are flying around squeaking, but otherwise it is all peace and quiet. South Africans are not naturally noisy people, and especially not in the bush. Sizzling Delhi and dacoities galore

I can’t avoid talking about the weather.  I’m English, so it’s part of my DNA, you see.

Just one difference. Over there, in Blighty, we moan gently about the cold and the incessant rain, and pray for a bit of sun.

Here in Delhi, we pray for rain.  If only we could have a nice big storm to break the heat, and then some rain, but no such luck.  Every day seems hotter than the previous one, and yesterday we even hit a record for minimum temperatures…

Snipped hair and zeitgeist

I dropped Anjulie at the airport last night for her flight to Dubai and onto London, and, feeling so very downcast and sad as I always do when my children are not within hugging distance, I headed back to Vasant Vihar and a lovely dinner with Carine.

Carine sweetly took me out for a fabulous dinner to cheer me up, at that smart fusion restaurant in Emporio, “Zest”.  No, wait, hang on, it’s changed its name since I was last there, and is now called “Setz”.

Gotta love India.

Hair !

Anjulie, Abhimanyu and your blogger at large went to see an open air performance of “Hair” at the Garden of the Five Senses last night, and good fun it was, too.

Gita and Shoki Bhatia were there, as were Emma, Andrew and Rebecca Horne.

The show was fun, though the acting was a tad stilted and the sound system let the actors down badly in the second half of the show.

I had forgotten just how good the music is, and was dying to stand up and dance and show my age, but :
