Leaning up in Bollywood

It’s been another really hot day, and the mercury is only going to rise. (That’s Indian-speak for it’s going to get hotter).

Sometimes, I wonder if I am slowly losing my linguistic bearings – you wouldn’t talk about the rising mercury in Blighty, would you ?  Well, not that hot weather is ever a factor of life there, I admit. But you wouldn’t.  Would you ?

Frighteningly medieval

There are days when you just want to shake your head in despair, and sadly today is one of them.

Yesterday, I blogged at length about the village panchayats in Haryana, and their medieval mindset.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but they are largely Hindu (and possibly Sikh ?). So, seemingly not to be outdone, a Muslim organisation in Lucknow has just come out with a fatwa against women working.

What on earth is happening ?  Is it fear ?  Desperation ?

A cheap detan body bleach, anyone ?

Book club at Christina’s was lovely last night.  Great food, chilled white wine, and good friends.  What could be nicer ?

As I was leaving Defence Colony to drive back home, there was a police barricade, and the cops actually pulled over the bloke in front of me.  I presumed it was because he was talking on the mobile, but perhaps not.  There was an article in today’s papers about the terror threat, and how there is increased policing.

GPS for tuk tuks

Yet another day hunched over a hot computer, working on the new, updated blog, which is almost ready to rock and roll.  And yet again, Himmat has done sterling work, figuring out all the html codes and clever technical stuff.
