So farewell, then, tacky fairy lights

It’s a cold Twelfth Day of Christmas here in Delhi -  though not as cold, I appreciate, as England, where Hari and Anjulie are off to this weekend.  So, tonight, with much regret, we will mark the end of the Christmas season tonight with a dinner for friends.  The cards and tinsel will come down, the tree will be put out to shiver on the roof terrace, and -  biggest wrench of all -  I must take down all my lovely tacky fairy lights.  Seems like only yesterday I was storming Khan Market to find pink lights, but here [...]

Subtitled winners

Forget the war on terror.  Forget the economy.  Forget even the distinctly chilly weather here in Delhi.

This was today’s banner headline in the “Times of India” :

Read on.  It only gets worse.

Harsh words, indeed.  Delhi “aspires to world city status”.  Ouch.  I think they think they have it already.

The BCCI -  the Board for Cricket Control in India – “always shows alacrity when it comes to making money from cricket…”  Ouch 2.

So, given the sarcasm from the venerable ToI, perhaps this is the appropriate moment to slip in this other shocking [...]

Sick minds in Gurgaon

Christmas is approaching so fast, and I am so totally unprepared (other than the fairy lights festooning every inch of the house) that I did the only sensible thing today – went out and ignored the problem.  Also, the place still reeks of ayurvedic killer stuff + primer + undercoat or whatever it is the paint-wala is slapping on my newly built bookshelves, so the only solution was to spend as much time as possible out in the lovely warm winter sunshine.  So we took the children to lunch at the Italian Cultural Centre – fabulous new discovery) and [...]

Champagne and fairy lights

The last Sunday of Advent started at dawn at the club, where it was cold and misty. How cold, do I hear you ask ?  2 fleece-cold, that’s how chilly it was.  Since it is Christina’s birthday today, we had an early party for her after riding/walking.  Veuve Cliquot and Lizzie’s cake at 8 a.m.  All very civilised.
