An eventful Monday. Rainy but eventful

There is one thing to be said about life here -  there is never, ever anything such as a routine, dull day in India.

Well, not for people as privileged as we are, obviously.  If you have to eke out a living it must be appalling here.  But you know what I mean.

Take today for instance.

A sad weekend of farewells

In keeping with the grey, damp weather, it has been a rather sad weekend of farewells, never the nicest of things at the best of times.

On Friday we said a last farewell to our New Zealand friends Kerry Greig and David Hair, who are heading back to Wellington.  Thank goodness it’s not to Christchurch, after the earthquake.

Shopping & pulling up socks

Daughter dearest and I came up with a great way to start the week.

Banish those irritating Monday morning blues by going jewellery shopping.  Highly recommendable.

Off we went to Sunder Nagar, just as our favourite shop Navrattan was opening, and happily shopped away.  If the truth be known, we mainly shopped for presents for other people, but there’s nothing like looking at beautiful stones and old silver bracelets and gorgeous antique jewellery to start the week on a truly positive note.

Nuking termites & dancing in the rain

Another day has dawned, and it is far too hot and sunny for the time of year.  Where is all our much needed rain, for goodness sake ?  Alison and I sat on the terrace for our first coffee of the morning, then beat a retreat indoors, as it was already too hot and sticky at 7.15.

We had a lovely evening last night, welcoming a group of Alison’s friends home.  Since most of the guests are also our friends, it was a lovely, relaxed, happy evening.  Great wine.
