Even elephants have a dark side

Having blogged about an elephant lumbering down the BRT here in Delhi yesterday, here is another ele story, but one with a dark side.

This is rape and murder, no two ways about it.

Note to self.

Must dig out all my Periyar trannies and scan them. That was such a great trip with Jane Binstead, and we had lots of elephant interaction, as it so happens.

Are there elephants in Bogota ?

That was the question I asked myself as I drove home after lunching with Anumeha in GK I – where I also bumped into Sanghita, who was looking ridiculously cool, despite the searing heat.

For there in front of me, ambling calmly along the BRT, was an elephant.

Over lunch, Anumeha and I had been mildly cribbing about Delhi traffic, Delhi driving, the daft BRT system -  as one does.  We all know the BRT was modelled after the bus system on Bogota, but Delhi & Bogota are light years apart in climate & population.  And elephants, I imagine.

A distinct sense of humour failure

I’m going to make this fairly brief, ‘cos it’s late, and my sense of humour has gone AWOL today, and I see no reason to take it out on you, dear reader.

Basically, today was the first real day of what will doubtless be months of summer woes.

It has been really hot, and we have been plagued by power-cuts all day long.  So much for the fine promises of our elected government.  Coupled with what I suspect is an internal problem, each time the power went, my computer shut down immediately – no warning, no nano-second’s delay to [...]

200 days & 40 degrees

According to Carine, her car thermometer showed 42 degrees this afternoon.  So, as good neighbours do, we will have a bottle of champers to celebrate/commiserate with each other, since the temperature has crossed 40 degrees even earlier than it did last year.  My own weather widget on the blog has been showing 39 all afternoon (but for champagne I am prepared to fib).

So, other than a delicious early morning walk at the club with Christina, I have been resolutely indoors all day.  It’s quite odd.  You still need a light fleece in the morning, and then by lunchtime [...]
