What’s all this about a postponement ?

There’s an article in this morning’s Times of India, reporting what would seem to be a wide-ranging TV interview with the Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit.

The interviewer is Karan Thapar, a batch-mate of Himmat’s from Doon School, and a fesity reporter with a no-nonsense style.  I haven’t seen the televised interview yet, but one sentence in the paper caught my eye.

The CM said “she was not hoping for a postponement of the event.”  Was this ever an option ?  The logistics of any kind of delay would be huge and immensely costly, I would have [...]

Discipling every Delhi driver ? Easy according to the cops

The clock is ticking remorselessly down to the Commonwealth Games, and the rain keeps pouring equally remorselessly, but that’s OK, because now we can blame the rain for everything.  Well, the Health Minister actually blamed the Games today for the outbreak of dengue fever in the city, but that’s par for the course – the famous blame game.

Yesterday, they carried out the first testing of those famous dedicated Games lanes.  It sounds as though it was a fair, realistic test :

3 km in prime, central Lutyens Delhi.

Battling technology anew

Now I am fully aware that this blog is far from perfect (pause for resounding chorus of cyber-denials. Thank you, thank you) but I am reasonably happy with it for the moment, so today I took the plunge and went back to a long-shelved project.

Water, water everywhere

I would like to be able to regale you with stories of Himmat’s birthday party on Sunday night, but since I came over all funny with some mystery Delhi-esque ailment,  I retired to my bed, while everyone else partied hard and late.  I think I had what other friends have had/are having/may well be having, ie a nasty 24 hour bug, but I could have wished for better timing.

Anyway, today sees me as right as rain – not that we’ve had any proper rain to talk about these last couple of days, though.
