A can of worms & snakepoint

The last couple of days, I have noticed men in orange marching purposefully across Moti Bagh, carrying wooden structures festooned with bright tinsel-y paper. Of course, it is the season for “kanwarias”or pilgrims, who carry holy water from Rishikesh back to their villages – usually in Haryana and Rajasthan.

Mauritius -  where we used to live – had a similar festival, though there they were called “cavadees” and their structures -  for want of a better word -  were much bigger and more elaborate.  But as their distance from holy water source to village was much shorter, too, perhaps [...]

Grey skies and an empty nest

It’s grey and cold and overcast and generally miserable – and that’s just my mood, not even taking into account the weather. Anjulie is about to take off for Birmingham via Dubai, and Hari has finally left Dubai for London, after 24 hours there, courtesy the Delhi fog & the British snow.

So, here I am, back in my newly emptied nest.

Robots and beelines

This may well be my last blog of 2009.  It is certainly my last from Delhi this year.  We are due to leave at dawn for Jodhpur tomorrow, and I hope I will be able to post from there, but who knows ?

So, if this is indeed it for 2009, I absolutely have to thank you all so much for reading Delhi Diary over the last couple of months.  I am having the hugest fun.  I have definitely found my calling in life – sounding off and being opinionated seem to come naturally to me !

A facelift and a bad fall

It’s a pale sunny Monday morning.  Morning assembly from my local school is blaring out over the loudspeakers. “Left, right. Left, right. Left, left, right.” Gill and Alan have just left for 4 days in Rajasthan, so it’s time to settle down with my 2nd coffee of the day -  Yoda sent the first one flying – and catch up on the last hectic weekend.
