Countdown to one of the world’s toughtest ultramarathons

6 weeks today, on 11 August, one of the craziest, most thrilling races in the world will kick off. La Ultra the High.

The venue?

The Nubra Valley in Ladakh, that beautiful, arid, high altitude desert that links India to Tibet.

The race distance?

Ah, well, you can take your pick.

111km, or 222 km or 333km. (What did you not understand about the word “crazy”? 🙂 )

Runners will cross the highest motorable pass in the world, Khardung La, at 18,380 feet.

This is an ultra like no other.

Holidays over, and back in the saddle.

It’s been a while since I shared a photo of the day with you, but I have decided to revive this section of my blog.

Just a bloke hanging out with his elephant

Last summer, driving through the hills in Uttarkhand, we chanced upon this fine couple. Hanging out by the side of the road on a cool day.

As one does.

Every time I look at it, it makes me smile, and so I thought, “Hey, it’s Monday. Back to work day. Why not spread the smile?”

Go on, go try and trump this for a view. Mandalay Palace. Just part of it. And actually, not the shiniest twinkliest-in-the-sun part. Not by a long chalk.
