Old fashioned glamour to the fore at India Fashion Week

And so, last night, for a while, I got to hang out with Delhi’s beautiful people, courtesy of Amazon India Fashion Week.

Quick heads up – one of my cousins-by-marriage is the designer Ashish Soni, and so off we trotted, daughter dearest and I, to watch his show, the final show of the first day of India Fashion Week 2018.

And WHAT a show it was.  Showmanship in every sense of the word.

Ashish is super well-known for his menswear, favouring sharp lines and fun, quirky little touches, but last night it was a show with a difference.

He showcased his Autumn-Winter line alongside the sister duo Gauri and Nainika, who are known for their fabulous frocks and gowns, and the result was sheer class.

I didn’t appreciate it at the time, but apparently this combining of men’s and women’s wear was a first, so such fun to have seen it, and from a wonderful vantage point, too.

Here, take a look for yourself at the elegance of the black and white formal clothes on show…

The trouser suit to the right, which the Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor wore to close the show, is by Ashish – such talent.  Simple, elegant & the kind of ensemble that can be worn the world over.

Ms Kapoor opened the show, by the way, in a gown by Gauri & Nainika (photo to the left).

What the photos don’t tell you is that the music was James Bond theme songs – especially the fab Skyfall – which added to the glamour of the evening.

These were the dramatic opening moments:

See what I mean about oozing elegance?  I absolutely LOVE the long black dress that “stars” at the start of the clip (below), and you get a return look as the model walks back.  You need to be young and impossibly thin to wear such a dress, I do realise, but one can dream…

And just look at part of the finale:

Super fun.  Smashing clothes.  All round brilliant evening.
