Curiouser and curiouser

So Mr. Trump is offering to help resolve the Kashmir dispute between India & Pakistan, is he?

“I was with Prime Minister Modi two weeks ago,” Trump recalled. “He actually said, ‘Would you like to be a mediator or arbitrator?’ I said, “Where? He said, ‘Kashmir.’ Because this has been going on for many, many years. I was surprised at how long it’s been going on,” Trump added, revealing his lack of knowledge about the history of the conflict.

Trump added: “I’d love to be a mediator.”

Someone please, pretty please tell me that today (July 23rd) is actually April Fool’s Day.

If you re-read Trump’s statement, which his officials are now desperately trying to dial back, you have your answer right before you, as to why this man should never ever in a million years be allowed anywhere near anything as tricky as the Kashmir question.

Re-read Trump’s words.

Sorry to make you do that, but go on, please, re-read them…

“We talked about the subject” he claims.

Yet when Mr. Modi apparently asked him to be a mediator, Mr. Trump asks “where?”.

Er, Donald-ji, what part of the word Kashmir did you not understand?

India has categorically denied this conversation ever took place.

Hope to God they’re right.

According to the Huffington Post, even his own side didn’t back him up :

“Even before India denied Trump’s claim, the White House refused to confirm that the Kashmir conversation between Modi and Trump had occurred, The Wall Street Journal reported.”

Mr. Trump as a mediator in an impasse so bitter that for 70 years these 2 countries have been at ferocious loggerheads?

Countless lives lost.

Countless billions of rupees spent on arming both sides of the conflict.

Distrust and hatred and alienation that fester.

And Donald Trump wants to mediate?

For the love of God…

Mr. Trump, who famously didn’t know where the Rohingya are from :

Mr. Trump who, after offering to mediate between India & Pakistan said he could wipe out Afghanistan…

My bets are 100% firmly on the Indian version of events.

Please God.

For all our sakes.
