As a non-American, I’ve been pretty darned emotional this morning, weeping away at the speeches and scenes from Delaware, the dancing in the streets, and the joyful scenes in New York.
Mr. Biden might not be my President and the wonderful Ms Harris might not be my VP, but it feels like it.
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m British, my husband is Indian, and we retired to India after decades living all over the globe, especially in Africa. Our children are bi-racial, third-culture children.
All of which is to say that the winning combo of Mr. Biden & Ms Harris seems like a MUCH better global fit than the current incumbents of the job.
Whether we like it or not, the USA exercises a great deal of influence over the rest of the world, so yes, this team makes me very happy. Very happy indeed.
I wept while listening to Kamala Harris’s speech – she beamed with such joy and happiness, she was gracious, she was eloquent, and I know she will have inspired many young women with her words.
And as for Mr. Biden…he jogged onto stage! He has a rescue dog! He played Coldplay while the fireworks went off!
What’s not to love?
After all the crassness and stupidity of the last 4 years, after all the hate, and the downright illiteracy of Mr. Trump, it was like a breath of fresh air to hear sensible, generous words. And in complete sentences, too…I tell you, how low have our standards been dragged down, listening to the unintelligible, self-serving, unfinished sentences of the current President.
I am no political pundit.
I’m not an American.
But I am one happy global citizen this morning.
I think these two will actually make America great again 🙂
