Checking in from Namche Bazar

Checking in from Namche Bazar

A quick update (from my phone, I’m warning you in advance, so you can excuse typos!) to bring you up to speed on Day 3 of our trip to Lobuche East.

So far, so good.

Yesterday was a long uphill slog (obviously it’s uphill, this is the Himalayas!) from Phakding to Namche Bazar, a buzzy little town where we are spending 2 nights to acclimatise.

I was last here in 2004 when I solo trekked to Everest Base Camp, so it’s fun to see how the town has developed. It is a bustling little place, with shops & tea-houses galore, as well as the inevitable Irish pub & coffee shops &, apparently, the world’s highest tattoo parlour.

We even had a delicious Japanese lunch today, of all things.

This morning we hiked up to Syangboche, a 400m altitude gain, but most importantly, a breathtaking panorama with – oh joy! – a brief view of Everest.

Tomorrow we continue onwards & upwards and apparently with decreasing connectivity.

I hope I’ll be able to blog, but if not, then wish me luck!
